Recycled Silver and Amethyst Earrings

So, why recycled sterling silver?

Hey all, and welcome to my first blog post! I'm excited to take the leap and begin imparting some of the knowledge I've learnt over the past few years to you all (such as why recycled sterling silver?). I'll also share behind the scenes here at Magnolia Studios, so you can see a bit more about my processes. So lets start with the first question:

Why recycled sterling silver?

Ever since I've been creating jewellery, it was incredibly important to me to use eco-friendly and sustainable materials. You see, silver (and other precious metals such as gold) are mined from the ground. However the impact of this is the release of a great deal of CO2. On the scale that silver could be mined, you can agree that can cause quite an impact.

So recycled sterling silver is the ideal solution. I will never pretend to know all the ins and outs of how you can recycle silver, but I know its a great option! My supplier fortunately buys scrap and old metals. Everything is certified (meaning its tested to ensure its kept up to standard and reached the 925 status), and the quality is second to none!

So how does using eco and recycled silver impact my business?

At first, all silver I was bought was much more expensive. My supplier was originally selling both mined and eco silver. However, they are the leading UK supplier and now only sell recycled. Therefore the impact for me, hasn't really changed! You will find that due to the extra work that goes into recycling silver, pieces can cost more, but with the impact mining can have on the planet, I believe its worth paying that difference.
